Nigeria’s N87tr total debt profile manageable, says IMFAccording to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigeria's N87.3 trillion ($113.4 billion) total public debt position is manageable and poses no risks to the economy. IMF African Department Director, Abebe Selassie, stated that Nigeria is unable to generate enough tax revenue to service its debts and invest in key infrastructure, which results in rising debt service cost being the country's biggest challenge. Selassie said the debt servicing is hampered by the country's reliance on oil when prices were high and a subsidy regime which leads to inflation. The IMF backed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for removing forex restrictions placed on 43 items that can be produced locally, claiming that such restrictions never worked in many economies that practice it.新闻链接
